Safaricom PLC has today hosted the fourth edition of its ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ forum, targeting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Coast region. The initiative is part of Safaricom’s ongoing efforts to promote digital transformation among enterprises, aiming to enhance their competitiveness and drive economic prosperity in Kenya.
The forum, which focuses on equipping MSMEs with the knowledge to scale their businesses using technology, also serves as a platform for entrepreneurs to exchange ideas on how digital solutions can improve market reach, streamline operations, and strengthen their online presence.
According to the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), Kenya has over 7.4 million MSMEs, employing nearly 14.9 million people and contributing 30% to the country’s GDP. However, these enterprises continue to face significant challenges, including limited knowledge, rapid technological changes, and resource constraints.
“MSMEs are the backbone of our economy, but many struggle to adapt to the fast-changing technological landscape. At Safaricom, we believe technology holds the key to unlocking their full potential, and through the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ initiative, we aim to empower these businesses to thrive in a digital world,” said Cynthia Kropac, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Safaricom.
As the global economy becomes increasingly digitized, it is estimated that 70% of new value created over the next decade will be driven by digitally-enabled platform business models. With this in mind, Safaricom’s forum is providing MSMEs with opportunities to connect with industry experts, potential partners, and peers to further drive their digital transformation journey.
Launched in March 2024, the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ initiative is part of Safaricom’s commitment to supporting MSMEs and contributing to the economic development of the country through the adoption of technology.
