Rosemary Mutheu Muathe, a prominent city businesswoman, was charged with attempted murder at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday. Appearing before Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, Muathe pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was granted bail.
Muathe was released on a cash bail of KSh 500,000 or, alternatively, a bond of KSh 2,000,000 with a surety of the same amount. Magistrate Onsarigo also ordered Muathe to deposit her passport with the court as part of the bail conditions.
In a bid for leniency, Muathe’s lawyer argued that the accused is a family woman with a stable residence and that the charges stem from a commercial dispute, emphasizing that she is not a flight risk.
The charges against Muathe allege that, on multiple occasions—specifically July 1, 2024, and August 1, 2024—at an undisclosed location within Kenya, she conspired with another individual to kill Anthony Maina Mutahi.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on August 7, 2024, for pre-trial directions. The proceedings will determine the next steps in this serious matter.
