In a brief ceremony held at the Supreme Court of Kenya, Mr. Kanja took the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, presided over by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, Hon. Martha Koome. The swearing-in, which took place between 11:32 and 11:38 AM, marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s security leadership.

Mr. Kanja, the former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service, assumes leadership at a critical time. Dignitaries attending the ceremony included the Vice Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, Dr. Otuala, and Principal Administrative Secretary (PAS) from the Office of the President.

Speaking during the ceremony, President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing Kenya’s security infrastructure. “It is the responsibility of our security forces to ensure safety and security for human life and property,” said the President. He emphasized the government’s support for the police service through investment in human capital, equipment, and legislative backing.

The President expressed confidence in Kanja’s ability to lead, saying, “I have faith in Mr. Kanja’s capabilities to provide leadership to the men and women in the police service.” He also stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law, reminding the new Inspector General of his duty to protect the NPS from manipulation, intimidation, or blackmail. “All of us are equal before the law,” Ruto added.

During the investiture at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto highlighted Kanja’s experience and dedication. “In Mr. Kanja, we have a seasoned leader, a disciplined career police officer, and a dedicated Kenyan. I have faith in his capability to provide leadership to the National Police Service.”

As IG, Kanja now shoulders the responsibility of ensuring national security and stability while guiding the NPS through the challenges ahead.
