Kennedy Ochieng Owili, a skilled tinsmith based at the Kombewa Enterprise Development Centre, has turned recycled metals into a thriving business.
Operating under the Jakonyango Juakali label, Kennedy has built a solid reputation for creating affordable home and farm equipment using recycled iron sheets and scrap metals.
Since launching his business in 2000 after completing technical school, Kennedy has specialized in crafting a wide variety of products, including jikos, metal boxes, chicken feeders, frying pans, water drums, meter boxes, farming tools, piggy banks, food display containers, and sufurias. His items are priced between Ksh 100 and Ksh 5,000, providing low-cost solutions for his customers while promoting sustainability through recycling.
To meet growing demand, Kennedy has employed two casual workers, and his business has grown steadily over the years. His work not only generates a sustainable income to support his family but also allows him to continuously expand his operations. By using recycled materials, Kennedy offers an environmentally friendly approach to manufacturing, contributing to both economic growth and environmental conservation in his community.
