Nairobi, Kenya — September 25, 2024 — The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), under the leadership of President Faith Odhiambo, has condemned the abduction of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Wajir’s Dela Ward. In a statement, LSK expressed grave concern over the incident and urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly.
According to reports from Mr. Ahmed’s family, the MCA was abducted by unknown assailants along Enterprise Road in Nairobi on Friday, September 13, 2024, at around 8:00 pm. The attackers, heavily armed and driving two unmarked Land Cruiser Prados, intercepted the taxi carrying Mr. Ahmed. The assailants forcibly removed him from the vehicle and drove off to an undisclosed location. Since then, neither his family nor colleagues have been able to establish communication with him.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo described the abduction as deeply troubling, noting, “The Law Society of Kenya has learned of the abduction of Hon. Yussuf Hussein Ahmed through family members. His whereabouts remain unknown, and we call on the Kenya Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take urgent action to uncover the truth and ensure his safe return.”
The family reported the abduction to the Industrial Area Police Station and filed a formal report with the DCI at Makadara Police Station under OB 86/13/09/2024. Despite these efforts, no information about Mr. Ahmed’s location has been forthcoming, leaving his loved ones anxious and uncertain.
In light of recent abductions and disappearances in the country, the LSK urged law enforcement to investigate potential foul play. “Human rights are imperative safeguards of a safe and stable society. Any threats to these rights must be counteracted by all means necessary,” Odhiambo emphasized.
LSK also called on the public to remain vigilant and share any information that may assist in locating Mr. Ahmed.
