Makueni, Kenya — September 26, 2024 — Superior Homes Kenya has launched a groundbreaking roadside truck stopover complex, Supastop, along the Northern Corridor at Sultan Hamud on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. This KES 350 million state-of-the-art facility is designed to enhance road safety and provide a secure, comfortable resting point for long-distance truck drivers and travelers.

Supastop offers a range of modern amenities including a fuel station, secure parking, affordable accommodation, restrooms, shower facilities, a health clinic, convenience stores, eateries, prayer rooms, and a secure truck checkpoint. The facility aims to address the lack of decent resting spots along this critical 145 km stretch between Mtito Andei and Salama.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hon. Lucy Mulili highlighted the importance of the Northern Corridor in driving economic growth in the region. “The opening of this Super Stop marks a significant milestone in the economic growth of this area. Providing a stop for truck drivers to rest, eat, and pray is one of a kind,” she said.

Sultan Hamud has long been a key parking spot for an estimated 300 trucks each night, but has lacked proper accommodation facilities for drivers. Supastop addresses this gap by offering a comprehensive solution to improve the overall experience of long-distance drivers.

Superior Homes Kenya CEO Shiv Arora emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “Our main drive towards putting up this development was to tap into the existing gap in the market by providing a one-stop shop for long-distance truck drivers and travelers. Our goal is to not only champion rest among drivers but also improve their overall experience on the road.”

Ian Henderson, Managing Director of Superior Homes Kenya, addressed the critical issue of driver fatigue, a major cause of accidents along the Northern Corridor. “Road safety and security have been major concerns along this route. Supastop is a significant step forward in addressing these issues by providing drivers with a safe and comfortable place to rest,” he said.

Supastop is the first of 30 proposed locations along the Northern Corridor, developed in partnership with the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA). The project represents a major upgrade in infrastructure and logistics, aimed at reducing accidents and improving the safety and well-being of drivers and travelers on this key route.
