The Kenya Publishers Association (KPA) has assured parents, teachers, and the public that Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) textbooks are readily available, with over 80% of Grade 9 books already delivered to public schools. The remaining stock is expected to reach schools by January 13, 2025, ensuring alignment with the government’s one-to-one textbook policy.

For private schools and parents, the textbooks are available in bookshops nationwide. KPA has encouraged those facing access challenges to contact them directly via +254 724 255 848 for support.

Recent curriculum revisions by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) have reduced learning areas, prompting publishers to create updated textbooks. Revised materials for Grades 5 and 6 are set for release by the end of January 2025, with Grades 7 and 8 books following in February. In the meantime, current materials for subjects such as Creative Arts and Sports, Pre-Technical Studies, and Agriculture remain sufficient for classroom use.

The updates reflect recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER), which aim to simplify and integrate subjects. For example, Home Science and Agriculture were merged into Agriculture, while Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Sports were grouped under Creative Arts and Sports.

KPA also emphasized that books for lifelong learning, including storybooks, novellas, and fiction, are well-stocked in bookshops. With over 15 approved publishers, including Longhorn Publishers, Oxford University Press, and Storymoja, learners and teachers have access to diverse, high-quality educational materials.

KPA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the CBC transition and ensuring uninterrupted access to resources, reinforcing Kenya’s progress in education reform.
