Kenya in Crisis: Opposition Accuses President Ruto of Orchestrating Abductions and Election Rigging
By Njeri Irungu.
Nairobi, Kenya – The political landscape in Kenya has taken a dramatic turn as the opposition intensifies its accusations against President William Ruto, alleging that he is the mastermind behind a series of illegal abductions and a scheme to pre-rig the 2027 General Elections.
In a shocking revelation, former Attorney General Hon. Justin Muturi has broken his silence over the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi. Speaking candidly, Muturi stated that despite holding a top security position in the Kenya Kwanza government at the time of the incident, he has been met with silence and deception while seeking answers for the past six months.
“What should concern every law-abiding Kenyan is that I, as Attorney General, sat on the National Security Council—the country’s highest security organ—yet I have been denied answers. If even I cannot get a response, what does that mean for ordinary citizens?” Muturi questioned.
Following his statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned Muturi to record a statement. The opposition has condemned this move, claiming it is an attempt to intimidate him into silence.
The opposition has gone a step further, accusing President Ruto of being the “Commander-in-Chief of the Abduction Squads.” According to Hon. Muturi, the abduction of his son was resolved only after a direct phone call was made to National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji—an act he claims demonstrates the President’s control over these operations.
The opposition’s statement alleges that Ruto has established “command and control structures outside the Constitution,” using them to target political dissenters and critics. They cite his recent speeches, which they claim trivialized the plight of abducted citizens and Gen Z demonstrators, as further proof of his complicity.
The opposition has likened Ruto’s administration to a dictatorship, condemning what they describe as “gross violations of human rights.” They argue that the Kenya Kwanza government is operating as a “renegade criminal enterprise,” using fear and oppression to silence the public.
“The People’s Loyal Opposition will not sit back and watch Kenya slide back into the dark days of political oppression. We will lead from the front in defending our democracy,” the statement read.
The opposition has issued a series of demands to the government, including an immediate end to abductions and illegal detentions, the unconditional release of all political detainees, respect for the Constitution and fundamental human rights, and President Ruto’s resignation if he fails to uphold the rule of law.
The opposition also raised concerns over the ongoing crisis surrounding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). They claim that certain officials blocking the establishment of the IEBC Selection Panel are “puppets of Ruto,” working to manipulate the 2027 elections in his favor.
“We will not allow the pre-rigging of the 2027 General Elections,” they declared, adding that they will wait for the January 21 court ruling before announcing further citizen actions.
In a final declaration, the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) confirmed that Farah Maalim has been expelled from the party for violating the Constitution and the rights of Kenyans.
With tensions escalating, Kenya faces an uncertain political future. The opposition has vowed to take decisive action if their demands are not met, signaling the potential for mass protests and legal battles in the coming weeks.
The nation now waits for the January 21 court ruling, which could determine the next course of action in this unfolding crisis.
