Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, EGH, has praised the contributions of women rangers in conservation, emphasizing their critical role in protecting Kenya’s wildlife. She described them as a valuable resource in safeguarding nature and ensuring biodiversity thrives.

CS Miano’s remarks come two months after President William Ruto officiated the passing-out parade of 1,274 newly trained Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers at the Manyani Law Enforcement Academy. This milestone strengthens Kenya’s conservation workforce after a decade-long wait, reinforcing the country’s global leadership in wildlife protection.

Kenya remains a top conservation leader, ranking third globally with 2,004 rhinos and fourth with 37,000 elephants. To support human-wildlife coexistence, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has allocated KShs 51 million to Taita Taveta County for conservation efforts.

President Ruto commended KWS for its achievements, including a record-breaking ranger recruitment and the acquisition of 98 modern vehicles to enhance operations. He called for stronger partnerships between the government, local communities, and conservation stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism.

During the ceremony, President Ruto was honored as an Honorary Warden, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to wildlife conservation.

As Kenya continues to lead in environmental stewardship, CS Miano remains a key advocate for empowering women in conservation and fostering partnerships to protect the nation’s natural heritage.
