Nairobi, Kenya – Eng. Margaret Ogai, Registrar and CEO of the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), has reaffirmed her commitment to engineering excellence, public safety, and gender inclusivity in the profession. Speaking during a live media interview, she emphasized the crucial role of engineers in Kenya’s development and the need for strict regulatory compliance.

As the first female CEO of EBK, Eng. Ogai has spearheaded efforts to increase female representation in engineering, noting that 30% of the 22,000 engineering students in Kenya are now women. She continues to champion initiatives aimed at mentoring and attracting more women into the field.

On regulatory compliance, she warned against unlicensed individuals undertaking engineering projects, stressing that such practices compromise public safety. To enhance oversight, EBK is set to launch a centralized licensing portal to ensure only qualified professionals handle critical infrastructure projects.

Eng. Matalanga, a member of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), echoed her sentiments, highlighting the catastrophic risks of poorly executed projects and the importance of engineering precision.

Looking ahead, Eng. Ogai outlined a bold vision for international accreditation of Kenya’s engineering programs, enabling Kenyan engineers to work abroad seamlessly.

She urged the public to always engage licensed engineers to guarantee safety, emphasizing, “Engineering is at the heart of Kenya’s progress. Together, we can build a safer and more prosperous nation.”
