An American national arrested for allegedly trafficking narcotic drugs will be held at Gigiri Police Station as he awaits a ruling on his bond or bail application.
Jarod Tyler Robbert, who appeared before Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Law Courts Magistrate Njeri Thuku, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Thuku ordered the accused to remain in custody following an application by his defense lawyers, Danstan Omari and Brian Mabeya. The defense team stated they had written to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) seeking a plea bargain for their client.
“I have instructions to write to the DPP for a plea bargain. The accused has critical information he wishes to share with the investigating officer,” said Omari.
The prosecution requested the court to mention the case on Wednesday to allow time to verify the information Robbert intends to provide.
According to the charge sheet, on February 18, 2025, at MP Shah Hospital in Westlands, Nairobi County, Robbert was allegedly found trafficking narcotic drugs—60 grams of cocaine valued at Ksh 240,000—concealed in his body cavity, in violation of the law.
The case will be mentioned on February 26, 2025.
