A Nairobi man has been left counting losses after allegedly being defrauded of Ksh 900,000 by Brian Odera Omondi, a barber who promised to supply him with 20 tonnes of rice but disappeared after receiving the down payment.

The victim, who met Omondi through his barber services at Borderless Spa, reported the matter to the Kibera Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the suspect went missing without delivering the promised goods.

According to the complaint, Omondi convinced the victim to pay in advance, providing two M-Pesa numbers where the money was sent. However, after receiving the funds, he allegedly ceased communication and became unreachable.

Investigators have since discovered that Omondi, a Mathare resident, has not reported to work at Borderless Spa since the transaction, leading authorities to suspect he is on the run.

The DCI in Kibera is now seeking public assistance in tracking him down. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to report to the nearest police station.

“We are actively investigating this case and appeal to the public for any leads that could help locate the suspect,” a DCI officer stated.

Authorities are also using this case to caution the public against making large transactions without proper verification. They advise individuals to confirm supplier credibility and seek legal guidance before committing significant sums of money to avoid falling prey to scams.
