Katoo Ole Metito Under Fire for Alleged Clan-Based Appointments in Public Office

State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito has been accused by a section of leaders drawn from Kajiado of arbitrarily using his office to fan nepotism and clannism.

Katoo who comes from the Odomongi clan of the Maa community has recently been called out by Kajiado Woman Representative over nepotism in regard to employment opportunities in his office.

The Woman MP Leah Sankaire has accused Katoo of using his office to promote such vices over merit.

Katoo has been told to stop re-introducing clan politics in the Maa region at a time residents have established a reputation for electing leaders based on merit rather than political affiliations and clannism.

The State House operative is said to have employed his close allies and lobbied for employment of people from his clan only, instead of considering everyone across the Maa region including Narok and even Samburu counties.

The Maa community is made of Orokiteng and Odomongi clans, each further fragmented into numerous sub-clans. Within Odomongi, internal divisions have given rise to two major sub-clans, namely ilmolelian and ilmokesen, each vying for its own spokesperson.

Women from the community have also lamented their failed attempts to have Katoo help them access Presidential advisor on matters women Harriet Chigai to help
