A man accused of involvement in a fake gold scam has been charged with defrauding an investor of Ksh 179.5 million. Ronald Osonga Khejeri appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Monday, where he denied the charges.
The court heard that between March 31 and May 30, 2024, Khejeri conspired with others—some already charged and others still at large—to defraud Tanner Caldwell Cook, an investor who was led to believe he was purchasing 3,370 kilograms of gold.

Khejeri and his associates allegedly falsely claimed they could facilitate the gold sale, convincing Cook to part with the Ksh 179.5 million.
After pleading not guilty, Khejeri was granted release on a cash bail of Ksh 400,000. The case is scheduled for hearing on March 12, 2025.
