Gatanga MP Edward Muriu Defends Gachagua, Slams NCIC Over Reprimand

By John Kariuki
Gatanga, Kenya – MP Edward Muriu has criticized the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for reprimanding former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his remarks in Meru County.
Muriu accused NCIC of political bias, arguing that Gachagua’s warning to President William Ruto against visiting Meru if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed was being misconstrued.
“NCIC should be impartial, not a tool for silencing certain leaders while ignoring others,” Muriu stated, questioning the lack of scrutiny on past inflammatory statements by other leaders.
While NCIC Chair Dr. Samuel Kobia warned that Gachagua’s remarks could fuel ethnic divisions, Muriu and his allies insist he was simply voicing legitimate concerns.
The MP urged NCIC to focus on real threats to national unity rather than politically driven reprimands, warning against the weaponization of institutions for targeting specific leaders.
