National Land Commission Defends Budget Before Parliamentary Committee

The National Land Commission (NLC), led by CEO Kabale Tache Arero, defended its Supplementary Budget Estimates No. II for the 2024/25 financial year before the Parliamentary Lands Committee at Parliament Buildings today.
Ms. Arero emphasized that the additional funding is crucial for land administration, compulsory acquisition compensation, and dispute resolution. She assured MPs that all financial adjustments adhered to fiscal responsibility guidelines.
Legislators raised concerns over land compensation delays, budget utilization, and pending land cases. The NLC attributed delays to legal disputes, valuation challenges, and bureaucratic processes but assured efforts to streamline payments. The Commission also highlighted ongoing mediation efforts to address historical land injustices.
MPs called for accountability on previous allocations, urging the NLC to ensure prudent use of public resources. Ms. Arero provided a detailed breakdown of expenditures, demonstrating how funds had been effectively utilized.
The deliberations underscored the need for transparency, efficiency, and policy reforms in land governance, with the NLC reaffirming its commitment to equitable and sustainable land management in Kenya.
