The U.S. government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian aid, ensuring that food rations for refugees remain stable. Despite ongoing challenges, officials have assured that the current food supply levels will not decrease, offering much-needed relief to displaced communities.

Speaking on the matter, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, emphasized the government’s dedication to the safety, security, and well-being of all refugees. He reiterated that food rations will continue as they are, with no reductions expected.

At the same time, discussions on the long-term future of refugees in the country are gaining momentum. Murkomen announced the Shirika Plan, a new initiative set to be rolled out soon, aimed at addressing the prolonged stay of refugees—some of whom have lived in the country for over 35 years. Originally intended as temporary residents, their extended presence has raised questions about integration, accountability, and long-term solutions.

The Shirika Plan seeks to explore pathways for integrating refugees into society while assessing their contributions and responsibilities. Murkomen called on key stakeholders to offer firm support to ensure the plan’s success, emphasizing the need to balance humanitarian assistance with national interests.

Further details on the Shirika Plan are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
