NEMA Backs Cabinet's Total Ban on Asbestos to Protect Public Health -

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), under Managing Director Mamo B. Mamo, has welcomed the Cabinet’s directive for a total ban on asbestos in Kenya.

Mr. Mamo hailed the move as progressive and vital in protecting Kenyans from the cancer-causing risks of asbestos exposure.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet approved a nationwide asbestos removal initiative targeting public and private facilities to eliminate the hazardous material.

Asbestos, commonly used in construction during the 1960s and 1970s, is still found in schools, hospitals, government offices, and water systems. Exposure is linked to deadly diseases such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.

This ban marks a crucial step toward safer, healthier environments for all Kenyans.
