Tourism CS Rebecca Miano Champions Better Passenger Experience at JKIA with New Service Charter

By John Kariuki
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has led the launch of a Service Charter at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), aimed at transforming passenger experiences and boosting Kenya’s tourism sector.
Joined by Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Energy CS Davis Chirchir, Miano emphasized the government’s commitment to seamless service delivery at Kenya’s main airport, through a Whole-of-Government Approach.
Key agencies including KAA, KCAA, Immigration, KTB, KRA, and Airport Police signed onto the charter to ensure better coordination and customer service.
Key measures under the Charter include:
- Doubling immigration booths and staff within 90 days to speed up clearance.
- Installing e-gates for faster immigration processing.
- Equipping customs officers with body-worn cameras from July 1, 2025, to ensure transparency.
- Mandatory uniforms and name tags for all staff within two weeks to enhance accountability.
- Customer service training for all airport personnel.
- Privacy-respecting security screening, with flagged bags inspected in private rooms.
CS Miano noted that significant improvements have already been made since January 2025, positioning JKIA as a world-class hub for travelers.
The initiative is expected to attract more tourists and enhance Kenya’s reputation as a leading travel destination.
