Biovision Africa Trust Launches Second Eastern Africa Agroecology Conference

Biovision Africa Trust has officially launched the Second Eastern Africa Agroecology Conference, scheduled for March 25-28, 2025, at Argyle Grand Hotel. Themed “Strengthening Agri-Food Systems Transformation for Resilience, Sustainability, and Socio-Economic Development,” the conference will focus on sustainable agriculture, soil health, and food security.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. David Amudavi, Executive Director of Biovision Africa Trust, emphasized the urgency of transforming agri-food systems to combat food insecurity, soil degradation, and climate change. He noted that over-reliance on chemical fertilizers has damaged soil health, reducing productivity despite increased inputs.
The conference will showcase local solutions such as organic fertilizers and agroecological innovations that promote long-term soil fertility and sustainable food production. Dr. Amudavi stressed the importance of supporting small-scale farmers and local enterprises to reduce dependence on imported fertilizers.
With climate change disrupting traditional farming cycles, the conference aims to unite policymakers, researchers, and investors in driving a sustainable agricultural future for Eastern Africa.
“This conference is a call to action. We must work together—governments, private sector, and civil society—to champion agroecology as the key to resilient and productive agriculture,” Dr. Amudavi concluded.
