Kakamega County Assembly Begins Vetting of CECM Nominees

The Kakamega County Assembly’s Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, has officially commenced the vetting process for County Executive Committee Member (CECM) nominees submitted by Governor Fernandes Barasa two weeks ago.
The first to face the committee on Thursday morning was Mr. Godfrey Owori Barasa, nominee for the Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism docket. During the session, Mr. Owori highlighted his extensive public service experience, promising to implement strategic policies aimed at boosting Kakamega’s economic growth.
Having previously served as CEC for Education, Science, and Technology (2022-2023) and CEC for Public Service and County Administration (2023-April 2024), Mr. Owori outlined his key priorities if appointed:
- Promoting tourism to position Kakamega as a key destination.
- Enhancing trade and investment through strategic marketing and improved infrastructure.
- Proposing and implementing county regulations to facilitate business growth.
- Upgrading open-air markets and improving infrastructure to support economic activities.
Mr. Owori holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy of Planning and Economics from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s degree in Education Science from Kenyatta University.
Speaker Namatsi emphasized that the vetting process aims to assess nominees’ qualifications, leadership capacity, and commitment to delivering results for Kakamega County. The Assembly will continue with the vetting of the remaining nominees before making final recommendations.
