Petitioner wants former Governor Sonko CECM barred from IEBC vetting process

A lobby group has sued former Nairobi Transport executive Mohamed Dagane over various corruption and irregular practices.
The Muungano Social Justice Movement from Eastleigh in Nairobi wants the CECM barred from holding any public office.
This comes after Dagane was shortlisted for the commissioner position at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The Petitioners are citing overwhelming illegalities, irregularities and circumvention of the law that was allegedly done by Dagane in his capacity as a member of the Nairobi City County Government COVID-19 Emergency team committee.
The Petitioners state that there was illegal, unlawful and irregular misuse and mismanagement of public funds and resources by the Dagane who is the main respondent.
Further The petitioner claims that Dagane was once suspended by former Governor Mike Sonko over incompetence while serving as the CEC for Health.
This is in regard to a tragedy that happened at Precious Talents Schools in August 2019.
“The Respondent has been shortlisted for interview on 14th April 2025 for the position of IEBC commissioner. The Petitioners state that the Respondent has therefore disregarded the whole of chapter six of the constitution,” the court petition reads.
“In the whole, the Respondent has disregarded the whole of chapter 6 of the Constitution which requires persons both state and public officers to uphold integrity,” the petition further reads.
He is being accused of falling short of stipulations for State officers to respect the values and principles of the Constitution.
Dagane is among 17 candidates who will face the IEBC interviews that will begin on Monday.
He prides himself of 17 years of leadership and management experience both in the public and private sectors.
