Nairobi Residents Express Dissatisfaction with Sakaja’s Leadership, Study Finds

Nairobi residents are dissatisfied with the present administration’s leadership under Governor Johnson Sakaja, according to a recent study commissioned by the Center for African Progress. The research, presented by city lawyer Ochary Oyeyia, surveyed 4,000 Kenyan voters living in the city.
With 2,490,414 registered voters, Nairobi is Kenya’s most populous county and boasts the highest GDP, valued at $14.8 billion as of 2017. The study’s findings indicate that corruption in public funds remains the biggest concern for residents, with a significant majority expressing discontent with the county’s governance.
A staggering 92% (3,680 respondents) believe that Nairobi is moving in the wrong direction, while only 6% think it is on the right track. Another 2% (80 respondents) remain unsure about the county’s trajectory.
The study also revealed that if an election were held today, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino would emerge as the preferred gubernatorial candidate, signaling that Governor Sakaja would struggle to retain his seat. The findings suggest a growing demand for change in Nairobi’s leadership, with residents calling for improved governance and transparency.
