PS Susan Mangeni Strengthens MSME Growth in World Bank Talks

By John Kariuki
Principal Secretary for MSME Development, Susan Mangeni, is leading efforts to boost Kenya’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through strategic global partnerships.
During high-level talks in Washington, D.C., PS Mangeni met with Dr. Hassan Zaman, the World Bank’s Regional Director for Equitable Growth, to discuss the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project (KJET)—a landmark initiative set to create 45,000 new jobs and enhance MSME competitiveness.
She emphasized that KJET will empower MSMEs by providing business development support and market linkages, ensuring they thrive as key drivers of Kenya’s economy. The project, set for rollout in May 2025, involves a whole-of-government approach, integrating both the Ministry of Co-operatives and MSME Development and the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry.
“This is a transformative intervention that will unlock new entrepreneurial opportunities and strengthen Kenya’s business ecosystem,” PS Mangeni stated.
With the Kenyan government and the World Bank collaborating closely, KJET is expected to accelerate economic resilience and long-term MSME growth across the country.
