Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Culture, Ummi Bashir, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to gender-responsive environmental policies at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69).
Speaking during an interactive dialogue on Environmental Protection, Conservation, and Rehabilitation, PS Bashir emphasized the crucial role of women in sustainability and climate action. She highlighted Kenya’s efforts to integrate gender perspectives into environmental policies, ensuring vulnerable communities—especially women and children—benefit from sustainable climate solutions.
“Kenya has made significant strides in climate adaptation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable development,” she noted, stressing the need for inclusive decision-making in environmental governance.
CSW69 brought together global policymakers, environmental advocates, and leaders to explore solutions balancing conservation with social and economic equity. Kenya’s proactive approach in addressing climate challenges while promoting gender inclusivity positions the nation as a model for sustainable environmental governance
