Kakamega Assembly Approves Governor Barasa’s Cabinet Nominees

The Kakamega County Assembly has unanimously approved six nominees for County Executive Committee Member (CECM) positions, as proposed by Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa. The approval follows a rigorous vetting process conducted by the Appointments Committee, which confirmed the nominees’ suitability for office.

Assembly’s Endorsement
The committee’s interim chairperson, Hon. Peter Walunya, assured the House that all nominees met legal requirements, passed integrity checks, and were selected with regional balance and gender representation in mind.
MCAs Truphenah Asembo, Silas Shiyenji, and Niver Oluchiri lauded the Governor for prioritizing youth and women representation, with Ms. Kakayi (33 years old) being a notable youthful appointee. Hon. Bonface Akosi confirmed the nominations adhered to the two-thirds gender rule.
Both Majority Leader Philip Maina and Minority Leader David Ndakwa urged the swift swearing-in of the appointees to allow them to commence their duties immediately.
With the Assembly’s resolution now forwarded to the Governor, the nominees are set to take office, marking a new chapter in Kakamega’s county leadership.
