Director Evelyn Cheluget’s Reforms Revolutionize Passport Issuance

By John Kariuki
Kenya’s passport issuance process has undergone a major transformation under the leadership of Director Evelyn Cheluget, addressing inefficiencies that long plagued the system.
Key reforms include acquiring modern passport printing machines, converting Nyayo House’s Southern Wing into a dedicated passport delivery hub, and decentralizing services to regions such as Kericho, Bungoma, and Garissa. These changes have streamlined processing, reduced congestion, and improved accessibility.
Digital innovations, including an SMS short-code (22222) for real-time tracking, have enhanced customer service, while workforce expansion and training have boosted efficiency.
Cheluget’s leadership has set a new standard for public service, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery.
