CS Oparanya Pledges Revival of Kimuri Coffee Factory Amid Farmer Woes

The government has committed to reviving the collapsed Kimuri Coffee Factory following concerns raised by Senator Veronica Maina over its impact on farmers.
During a recent parliamentary session, Sen. Maina criticized the government for failing to address the struggles of coffee farmers who have been left without a reliable processing facility. She called for urgent intervention to restore operations and improve farmers’ earnings.
In response, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives Wycliffe Oparanya assured that plans are underway to rehabilitate the factory. He acknowledged challenges such as financial mismanagement, outdated infrastructure, and declining production but affirmed that the government is working on concrete solutions.
“The government is aware of the struggles farmers are facing, and we are committed to providing financial support, modernizing equipment, and restructuring management to revive Kimuri Coffee Factory,” Oparanya stated.
Key interventions include securing funding, implementing efficiency reforms, and collaborating with private investors to boost productivity. The move aligns with the broader national agenda to strengthen the coffee sector and eliminate exploitative middlemen.
While stakeholders have welcomed the commitment, Sen. Maina cautioned against delays, demanding a clear timeline for implementation. “Farmers have heard promises before; now they need action,” she asserted.
The revival of Kimuri Coffee Factory is expected to restore economic stability for farmers and enhance Kenya’s coffee production. However, all eyes remain on the government to ensure swift and effective action.
