LSK Questions Inspector-General’s Impartiality Over Political Rally Attendance

Nairobi, Kenya – April 5, 2025
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has raised concerns over the impartiality of Inspector-General of Police Japhet Koome after his attendance at a political rally in Nyeri County.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo criticized Koome’s presence, warning that it undermines public trust in the police force. “The Inspector-General has a constitutional duty to serve all Kenyans impartially. His attendance at a political event sends the wrong message,” she stated.
The concerns were highlighted during LSK’s submissions before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) on the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Laws (Amendment) Bill. LSK warned that police involvement in political activities could erode confidence in law enforcement.
As debate over police neutrality intensifies, LSK has called for accountability, urging the government to ensure that law enforcement remains apolitical.
