78 Kenyans Rescued from Myanmar Trafficking Syndicate Return Home

Nairobi, Kenya – April 5, 2025
Seventy-eight Kenyans who fell victim to a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar have been rescued and repatriated, marking a significant government effort to combat the growing crisis.
The victims, lured by false job offers, endured forced labor and abuse before the Kenyan Embassy in Thailand intervened. The first group of 47 landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in the morning, followed by 31 others in the afternoon. They were received by Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu, who warned against fraudulent overseas job schemes.
“There are no jobs in Thailand, India, or Malaysia. If you’re being recruited, it’s likely a trap,” Njogu cautioned.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will interview the survivors to dismantle the trafficking networks. The government has urged job seekers to verify opportunities with the Diaspora Affairs office to avoid falling into similar traps.
