Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule has called for greater inclusion of women in business, particularly in procurement and infrastructure development. Speaking at the World Chambers Federation Africa Summit in Nairobi, Chibule emphasized that women are already key players in the economy and should be given equal opportunities.

“We are not a threat to men,” she stated. “We just want to be given fair chances, especially in areas like tendering and procurement.” She referenced her participation in the Women in Procurement and Supply Chain Management event, where discussions focused on breaking barriers and proving that women can contribute to major infrastructure projects like road construction.

Chibule highlighted the need for capacity-building programs to help women access funding and navigate the bidding process. “Women need support to scale up their businesses, not just start them,” she added.

She also stressed the role of county governments in driving economic growth, pointing to her discussions at a recent summit in Addis Ababa on leveraging local resources for regional trade.

Recognizing the role of women in agriculture, she urged greater collaboration among female farmers. “The majority of farmers in Kenya are women. Why can’t we complement and uplift each other?” she asked.

Chibule concluded with a call for solidarity among women, urging them to champion each other’s success. “Let’s be our own champions and lift each other up,” she said.

Her remarks reinforced the push for inclusive economic policies that empower women across Africa.
