MSEA and Hand in Hand Partner to Boost Banana Value Addition in Nyamira

Nyamira, Kenya – April 2025 – The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) Nyamira office has partnered with Hand in Hand to enhance banana value addition through a circular economy approach. The partnership was solidified during a strategic meeting with the Wefahson Banana Cooperative, focusing on increasing market access, resource mobilization, and sustainable agribusiness practices.
MSEA outlined its key support programs, including the NYOTA Program, KJET Initiative, and the formalization of associations to help micro and small enterprises (MSEs) scale their businesses. The meeting also explored financing options for value-added agribusinesses and ways to expand market opportunities.
A major highlight of the discussions was waste utilization, with proposals to convert banana residues into organic fertilizers and implement eco-friendly packaging solutions. These initiatives aim to enhance sustainability while creating additional income streams for cooperative members.
Hand in Hand reaffirmed its commitment to providing entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and market linkages to support the cooperative’s growth.
The meeting concluded with key action points, including a comprehensive needs assessment, identification of funding opportunities, and the rollout of targeted business training. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to evaluate progress and fine-tune implementation strategies.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to boost agribusiness, support small enterprises, and promote environmental sustainability in Kenya’s agricultural sector.
