Kenya and Tanzania Strengthen Cross-Border Tourism Ties

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to enhancing regional tourism collaboration with Tanzania to promote sustainable travel and conservation efforts.
Speaking on the sidelines of the UN Tourism Ministerial Summit, CS Miano engaged with Dr. Pindi Chana, Tanzania’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, to discuss strengthening cross-border tourism between the two nations.
“We are exploring collaborative frameworks that will enhance regional tourism, protect our shared ecosystems, and promote sustainable development within our communities,” Miano stated.
Kenya and Tanzania share some of Africa’s most iconic tourism destinations, including the Maasai Mara and Serengeti, which attract thousands of international visitors annually. By harmonizing travel policies and conservation efforts, both countries aim to increase visitor experiences, streamline cross-border travel, and boost tourism revenues.
Miano emphasized the importance of joint marketing strategies, improved infrastructure, and better policies to facilitate seamless travel for tourists exploring both nations.
The discussions also highlighted environmental conservation, with both ministers agreeing on the need to protect shared ecosystems, combat poaching, and promote community-based tourism initiatives.
As East Africa positions itself as a premier global tourism hub, this partnership between Kenya and Tanzania is expected to drive economic growth, cultural exchange, and sustainability in the region’s tourism sector.
