Mombasa County Woman Representative Hon. Zamzam Mohamed has issued a formal request for a statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security following the tragic death of Mr. Yusuf Ali Abdi, who was found dead after the controlled demolition of a building in Mombasa.

In her address, Hon. Zamzam referenced the events of April 9, 2025, when a multi-agency team, led by the Kenya Defence Forces, undertook a planned demolition of a structurally compromised building on Plot No. XLVI/195/MI. The operation followed a Gazette Notice issued on April 7 and a prior declaration by the Mombasa County Government on April 8.

Tragically, Mr. Yusuf Ali Abdi was discovered deceased in the debris, having apparently been trapped inside the building during its earlier partial collapse. The incident has sparked public concern and calls for accountability.

Hon. Zamzam is now seeking clarification on two key issues:

  1. Government Support to the Family: What immediate and long-term measures are being taken by the government to assist the family of the late Mr. Abdi, who died under such harrowing circumstances?

  2. Investigation Status: What progress has been made in investigating the structural collapse and the events that led to Mr. Abdi’s untimely death?

She emphasized the need for transparency and justice for the bereaved family and called on relevant authorities to provide a full account of the incident.

“This is not just a matter of construction safety—it’s a matter of human dignity,” she said.
