Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime, Geoffrey Kaituko, is spearheading efforts to position Kenya as a key player in global maritime trade as he prepares for his new role as Deputy Head of Mission in Rome, Italy.

Kaituko, known for his reform-driven leadership, recently met with Dr. Joseph Mwangi Ng’aru, a naval architect and ocean engineer, to discuss strategies for advancing Kenya’s maritime agenda. The meeting focused on leveraging global expertise to modernize the country’s shipping sector and expand its international footprint.

“Dr. Mwangi brings vital international perspective that will help us achieve sustainable growth in this critical sector,” Kaituko said.

As PS, Kaituko has been instrumental in forging partnerships and improving regulatory frameworks to boost efficiency and competitiveness in the maritime industry. His upcoming diplomatic posting is expected to open new trade opportunities, particularly in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Kaituko also holds the distinction of being the first Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly, where he played a key role in advancing devolution and public service reforms.

With a background in governance and development, Kaituko is committed to aligning Kenya’s maritime strategy with global standards. His focus includes empowering local talent, enhancing port infrastructure, and promoting environmental sustainability.

As he transitions to his diplomatic role in Rome, Kaituko aims to attract international investment and strengthen Kenya’s role in global maritime logistics.

“Kenya’s future lies in how we connect with the world. The maritime sector will drive that connection,” he said.
