Meru County, Kenya – Evelyn Kimathi, daughter of Kenyan freedom icon Dedan Kimathi, is breathing new life into her father’s legacy through bold environmental stewardship. As head of the Dedan Kimathi Foundation, she led the planting of 2,500 tree seedlings in Igembe North, Meru County—an initiative that underscores the Foundation’s commitment to boosting forest cover and climate resilience.
The exercise, supported by the Kenya Forest Service and local administration officers, targeted schools and public institutions, aligning with Kenya’s national goal of 30% forest cover by 2032.
“This is about more than trees—it’s about restoring ecosystems, nurturing communities, and securing our children’s future,” Kimathi stated.
The Igembe North initiative is part of a wider green revolution spearheaded by the Foundation, which is expanding its efforts to Imenti North and beyond. The campaign focuses on both exotic and indigenous species to balance ecological restoration with community needs.
Kimathi has redefined patriotism through sustainable action, urging all Kenyans—from individuals to private enterprises—to join hands in the fight against climate change.
“Environmental conservation is not a luxury—it’s a responsibility,” she emphasized.
