Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, today painted a bold new vision for Nyandarua County, declaring it a sleeping giant in Kenya’s tourism landscape with untapped potential ready to be unlocked.
Speaking during a lively citizen engagement forum in Olkalou, CS Miano lauded the county’s breathtaking natural beauty—ranging from rolling highlands and lush forests to the iconic Aberdare Ranges—as ideal for eco-tourism, adventure travel, and heritage tours.
“Nyandarua is a county of immense beauty, with natural landscapes that shall be developed into premier tourist destinations,” Miano said, drawing enthusiastic applause from residents and leaders in attendance. “The future of tourism is local, and Nyandarua stands out as a gem waiting to shine.”
The CS, who was accompanied by local leaders and officials from the Ministry of Tourism, emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive development, stressing that citizen voices were key in shaping policies that reflect real community needs.
“This beautiful Friday morning, we are here not just to talk, but to listen and collaborate. Our mission is to ensure that tourism benefits every corner of this nation—starting right here in Olkalou,” she added.
Local leaders echoed her sentiments, urging swift investment in infrastructure, road access, hospitality facilities, and marketing to elevate the county’s profile on the national and global tourism map.
With the government’s renewed push for grassroots-led development, Nyandarua may soon transition from an overlooked highland to a must-visit destination—offering not just scenery, but jobs, business opportunities, and a new pride in local heritage.
