Dedan Kimathi Foundation Marks Kagumo Primary’s 101st Anniversary with Tree Planting Drive

Nyeri, Kenya – May 2, 2025 — In a celebration that blended heritage with climate action, the Dedan Kimathi Foundation (DKF) led a major tree planting initiative at Kagumo Primary School to mark the institution’s 101st anniversary.
Founded in 1924, Kagumo Primary is one of Nyeri County’s oldest schools. To honor its long-standing contribution to education, DKF organized the planting of 400 indigenous tree seedlings—part of its ongoing mission to promote environmental sustainability and restore Kenya’s native ecosystems.
“This is more than a celebration—it’s a pledge to future generations,” said a DKF representative. “We’re here to honor the school’s legacy while planting seeds of resilience against climate change.”
The event brought together students, alumni, teachers, parents, and environmentalists in a united act of ecological stewardship. The choice of native trees highlighted DKF’s commitment to biodiversity and long-term sustainability.
Themed #GrowATree #SaveTheEarth #GiveEarthAChance, the initiative reinforced the idea that climate action can—and must—begin at the community level.
As the Dedan Kimathi Foundation continues its grassroots conservation work, this event stood as both a tribute to history and a call to action: to rethink how we live with and protect our natural environment.
