Evelyn Kimathi Leads 30,000-Tree Reforestation Drive in South Kinangop

Environmentalist Evelyn Kimathi has spearheaded the planting of 30,000 Cypress seedlings in South Kinangop Forest.
The initiative, held at the Holy Oak beat, brought together the Dedan Kimathi Foundation, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Community Forest Association (CFA), Kinangop Technical and Vocational College (KTVC), and local residents—showcasing a strong model for community-led climate action.
“This is more than tree planting—it’s about securing our future,” said Kimathi, CEO of the Dedan Kimathi Foundation. “Every seedling planted is a promise of climate resilience and ecological balance.”
The reforestation effort supports President William Ruto’s goal of 30% forest cover by 2032 and focuses on revitalizing the Aberdare ecosystem, a vital water catchment area. The choice of Cypress trees, known for their durability and carbon capture capacity, aligns with Kenya’s long-term environmental goals.
Kimathi urged the public to extend the mission beyond forests and into their homes and neighborhoods, stressing that environmental stewardship begins with individual action.
This campaign signals a growing movement to restore Kenya’s forest heritage—rooted in collective effort and a shared vision for a greener, more sustainable future.
