Held at Kericho Township Technical and Vocational College, the workshop brought together trainers and principals from 19 TVET institutions and key industry players from the South Rift region. The session is part of a nationwide roll-out to build capacity for RPL implementation—a key pillar in the government’s effort to formalize the skills of over 15 million Kenyans employed in the informal sector.

RPL, under the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF), allows individuals to gain formal recognition for skills acquired through experience and informal learning, enabling them to earn full or partial qualifications.

Dr. Kande emphasized that RPL is central to achieving decent employment, lifelong learning, and social inclusion, particularly for the youth. “This program is a game-changer for Kenya’s workforce. It recognizes what people already know and can do—offering them a real path to career growth and dignity,” she stated.

In remarks delivered on her behalf, PS Dr. Muoria lauded stakeholders for supporting the RPL agenda and called for continued collaboration, diligence, and innovation to ensure its nationwide success.

The workshop marks a major step forward in Kenya’s journey toward a more inclusive, skill-based economy—where experience counts, and every Kenyan has the opportunity to grow, qualify, and contribute meaningfully to national development
