New Garissa Road Project to Unlock Economic Growth and Improve Daily Life

By John Kariuki
A critical infrastructure project in Garissa County is quickly taking shape, with 64% of the 2.6 km A3 Junction–Madina–Sankuri–Kengen road now complete. Spearheaded by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), the project is part of a broader 5 km network aimed at boosting mobility, trade, and access to essential services.
Under the leadership of KURA Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti, known for delivering people-centered road projects across the country, the initiative is already having an impact. Once finished, the road will ease access to schools, health centers, markets, and places of worship, directly improving residents’ quality of life.
“This project is not just about tarmac. It’s about access to opportunity and transforming lives,” said a local resident.
The improved road is expected to lower transport costs, attract investment, and open up new trade opportunities in the region. KURA’s approach, especially in underserved counties like Garissa, reflects a broader push for equitable development through infrastructure.
As the project nears completion, it stands as a symbol of practical progress—proof that strategic investment in roads can drive long-term change and uplift entire communities.
