Kakamega Speaker Back Women MCAs in Inclusive Governance Training

Speaker of the Kakamega County Assembly, Hon. James Namatsi, and Assembly Clerk, Dr. Donald Manyala, PhD, joined a key capacity-building workshop organized by Transparency International Kenya (TI-Kenya) to support women Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in advancing inclusive governance.
The two-day training targeted members of the County Assembly’s Women Caucus and aimed to strengthen their skills in legislative and policy advocacy, particularly for marginalized and underserved groups.
Hon. Namatsi commended the initiative, stating,
“This initiative empowers our female legislators and strengthens our county’s democratic fabric.”
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s support for inclusive leadership and the development of laws that reflect the diverse needs of the county’s population.
The training sessions covered essential areas such as legislative processes, public participation laws, budget formulation, and anti-corruption strategies.
The MCAs also took part in interactive modules on stakeholder engagement and policy formulation, with a focus on tools for drafting effective briefs and pushing gender-responsive legislation.
Women Caucus Chairperson, Hon. Jael Omunyang’oli, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, noting that it had enhanced the members’ capacity to advocate for transparent governance.
“We now have stronger tools to push for legislation that reflects the real needs of our communities,” she said.
The workshop reinforced the Assembly’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and good governance, while TI-Kenya pledged continued support through mentorship and follow-up engagements.
The initiative marked a significant step toward empowering women leaders in county governance and ensuring policy decisions are inclusive and accountable.
