Irungu Nyakera Decries Government’s “Political Sabotage” Over Cancellation of DC Party Launch

By John Kariuki
Nairobi, Kenya – Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Irungu Nyakera has slammed the government for abruptly cancelling the party’s booking at Kasarani Grounds, calling the move “a direct assault on democracy and constitutional rights.”
In a strongly worded statement, Nyakera accused authorities of political interference after Sports Kenya revoked the venue allocation, despite a valid booking and payment.
“This is not just about a venue—it’s political sabotage that sets a dangerous precedent for authoritarian rule,” said Nyakera.
He warned that the decision violates constitutional freedoms, particularly the right to assemble and participate in political processes. “We call on the government to respect the law and the rights of all Kenyans,” he added.
Undeterred by the setback, Nyakera vowed the DCP launch will proceed as planned on June 3 at Kasarani. If blocked, the event will be relocated to Thika Road.
“Come prepared. Wear comfortable shoes,” he urged supporters, signaling the party’s determination to rally regardless of obstacles.
The incident has sparked debate about shrinking democratic space in Kenya as the political climate heats up. Observers warn it could set a worrying tone for the 2027 electoral cycle.
Nyakera’s message is clear: DCP will not be silenced. The movement aims to push forward with its vision of development-driven politics, even in the face of government pushback.
