In a blistering statement Tuesday, Wiper Party Leader and former Vice President Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka issued a grave warning against the rising tide of state-sponsored repression under President William Ruto’s administration. Speaking on behalf of the United Opposition Movement, Kalonzo painted a harrowing picture of a nation besieged by fear, abductions, and systematic efforts to silence dissent.

“The soul of our nation is bleeding,” Kalonzo declared. “This is no longer governance—it is systematic tyranny dressed in democratic robes. We will not be silenced.”

Kalonzo’s remarks follow the abduction and brutal torture of Juja MP George Koimburi, who was forcibly taken by unidentified assailants, beaten, and dumped in a coffee plantation. Calling it “a deliberate message of intimidation to opposition leaders and citizens,” Kalonzo demanded immediate action and justice.

Across Kakamega and Bungoma counties, peaceful opposition rallies have been violently dispersed by police using tear gas and live ammunition, Kalonzo said. He denounced the brutality as “an outright assault on the constitutional right to assemble and express political views.”

The murders of Catholic priests John Maina and Aloise Bett, who had hosted opposition figures, were strongly condemned. Kalonzo expressed solidarity with the Catholic community and called for justice for the slain priests.

In a scathing rebuke of private sector complicity, Kalonzo accused telecommunications giant Safaricom of aiding state security in illegal surveillance, data breaches, and facilitating abductions. “We demand transparency and accountability from all companies complicit in violating citizens’ privacy and rights,” he said.

Calling on Kenyans, civil society, and the international community, Kalonzo urged unity against what he termed a national emergency. “We call for an immediate end to politically motivated violence, protection of constitutional freedoms, and accountability for those trampling on our rights.”

He concluded with a defiant vow: “We are united, determined, and the voice of a people who refuse to bow to fear or oppression. Justice and the rule of law will prevail.”
