Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Ken Okeyo Ngondi, had the distinct honor of hosting President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga at his rural home in Rangwe, Homa Bay County.

The high-profile visit comes just days before Homa Bay County is set to host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, scheduled for June 1.

In a statement following the visit, Speaker Ngondi expressed his gratitude, describing the occasion as deeply personal and politically significant.

“It is a great honour to host the two leaders at our home and to have them meet my mother—I don’t take it for granted,” said Ngondi. “We must also thank them for their commitment to the development of this region and for working to ensure our people benefit from government initiatives.”

The presence of both President Ruto and Raila Odinga—two of Kenya’s most influential political figures—underscores a message of unity and development in the lead-up to the national celebrations.

Madaraka Day commemorates the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963 and is one of the country’s most significant public holidays.
