Machakos, Kenya — The South Eastern Kenya ASK Show turned into a vibrant hub of enterprise and innovation as hundreds of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) showcased their products, ideas, and resilience. Leading the praise was Richard Muteti, CEO of the Confederation of Micro and Small Enterprises Organisation East Africa (CMSEO EA) and Chairperson of the COMESA Business Council SMEs Work Group.
Touring exhibition stands and engaging with innovators, Muteti described the event as a powerful symbol of Kenya’s entrepreneurial potential. “This show is more than a competition—it’s a celebration of the people who drive our economy,” he said. “MSMEs are job creators, problem-solvers, and the backbone of inclusive growth.”
A major highlight was Machakos County clinching the Best Small Trade Stand (Commercial and Industrial), recognized for its dynamic display and strong promotion of local industries. Muteti commended the county’s leadership and exhibitors for “raising the bar for innovation and excellence.”
The ASK Show also served as a high-value networking platform for MSMEs, drawing investors, development partners, and buyers. Exhibitors ranged from agri-tech ventures and eco-startups to youth-led creative businesses—all reflecting Kenya’s dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Muteti used the occasion to call for deeper public-private partnerships, stressing the importance of accessible financing, business development services, and policy frameworks that prioritize MSMEs.
“As CMSEO EA and COMESA Business Council, we’re committed to strengthening the voice of small businesses regionally and pushing for real support where it counts,” he noted.
With advocates like Richard Muteti and platforms like the ASK Show shining a light on grassroots enterprise, Kenya’s MSME sector is not just surviving—it’s leading the charge into a more innovative, inclusive economic future.
