Otiende Amollo Threatens to Block Gachagua from Future Public Office

By John Kariuki
Rarieda MP Dr. Otiende Amollo has warned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Parliament could bar him from ever holding public office, citing continued divisive remarks.
Speaking at a fundraiser in Rongo, Dr. Amollo accused Gachagua of ignoring the seriousness of his 2024 impeachment and using his platform to stir ethnic tensions.
“We impeached you under Article 75, but clearly, you learnt nothing,” Amollo said. “If you persist, we will invoke Article 75(3) to block you from running for office again.”
The provision in Kenya’s Constitution allows Parliament to bar individuals removed from office for gross misconduct from contesting future public roles.
Gachagua, who was ousted as Deputy President last year, has since formed the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and launched attacks on President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration. His statements have drawn criticism for allegedly fueling tribal divisions.
Amollo said Parliament is ready to act if Gachagua continues his political campaign in a manner that threatens national unity.
“Leadership comes with responsibility. If your words destabilize the country, expect consequences,” he warned.
Gachagua has yet to respond to Amollo’s statement. However, his growing political activity and criticism of the government signal that he intends to remain a key player ahead of the 2027 elections.
The warning from Amollo now raises the stakes, setting the stage for a possible legal and political battle that could define Gachagua’s future in public life.
