Kirinyaga Senator James Murango has scored a major win for local dairy farmers after compelling the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (New KCC) to resume milk collection from Kirima Dairy.

Milk collection had stalled for weeks, forcing farmers to dump their produce and face mounting losses. But Murango took swift action—raising the issue in the Senate and formally petitioning both the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary for Cooperatives.

“After intense pressure, I’m glad to report that New KCC has finally started collecting milk from Kirima Dairy,” the senator announced.

Beyond restoring collection, Murango is now demanding the immediate release of Ksh 10 million owed to farmers and the creation of a contingency plan to handle surplus production. He also wants formal contracts in place to guarantee timely payments and quality standards, plus repairs to any faulty equipment that might disrupt future operations.

“This is about protecting the farmer,” Murango said. “Their sweat feeds the nation. We must never allow them to be demotivated again.”

In a dig at political opportunists, he added, “To those who show up for photos when the work is done, the milk truck is here—you’re free to take your selfie now.”

Senator Murango’s efforts have earned him praise across Kirinyaga, cementing his reputation as a hands-on leader committed to tangible results.
