PS Charles Hinga Steers Nanyuki Affordable Housing Project Toward Completion
By John Kariuki
Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering dignified, affordable housing with the near-completion of the Nanyuki Affordable Housing Project—now at 95% progress.
Launched in January 2024 under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the project is a key milestone in the government’s effort to provide quality homes for ordinary Kenyans. It comprises 200 units: 60 studio, 20 one-bedroom, 100 two-bedroom, and 20 three-bedroom apartments—designed to cater to diverse income groups and family sizes.
“This is not just a housing project—it’s about transforming lives,” PS Hinga said during a recent site visit. Civil works and landscaping are currently being finalized.
Beyond housing, the development has generated local jobs and boosted Laikipia’s economy. PS Hinga’s focus on sourcing from local suppliers has stimulated small businesses, while young people and women have gained hands-on training and skills during construction.
Hinga’s leadership continues to promote partnerships between government, communities, and the private sector. His goal: build not just houses, but thriving communities.
With completion around the corner, the Nanyuki project stands as a national model for affordable housing—proof that strategic vision, local empowerment, and government support can deliver real results for Kenyans.
