At the heart of East Africa’s agricultural transformation is Elgon Kenya, and at its helm, Dr. Bimal Kantaria—Managing Director, visionary, and driving force behind a revolution that fuses agribusiness with impact.
Under Dr. Kantaria’s leadership, Elgon Kenya has grown into a regional powerhouse, serving farmers across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Zambia. With over 600 employees and a vast agro-dealer network, the company does more than distribute farm inputs—it empowers farmers, champions sustainability, and strengthens food systems.
Recognized nationally and internationally, Dr. Kantaria was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) and appointed to the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council’s Global Advisory Council. But his most significant impact may be the Kantaria Agricultural Technology and Innovation Centre (KATIC) at the University of Nairobi—his personal investment into the next generation of agricultural solutions.
From irrigation and soil health to post-harvest innovations, KATIC connects students, researchers, and farmers in solving real-world challenges. It’s a living lab for tomorrow’s farming.
Equally transformative are the National Farmers Awards, founded by Elgon Kenya, which honor unsung heroes of agriculture—including youth, women, and persons with disabilities. This initiative has elevated farming’s status and inspired a new wave of agri-pride.
During COVID-19, Dr. Kantaria launched the Flowers of Hope campaign, delivering care and solidarity to frontline workers—a gesture that earned him the Presidential Uzalendo Award. His recent honor, the Productive Business Civility Award by iChange Nations, cements his global stature as a changemaker.
“Agriculture is not just a business. It is a responsibility,” says Dr. Kantaria.
Through Elgon Kenya, he continues to uphold that belief—turning innovation into impact, and business into legacy.
